A
growing number of health insurance companies
see the retail clinic system as preferential
to their members seeking care in emergency rooms or
urgent care centers. Indications from managed care
organizations point to a desire on their part to encourage
their members to use medical clinics such as To The Point Medical for non-emergency
treatment.
According to The Academy of Family Physicians, “Health insurance and managed care companies like the concept of retail health clinics because the services save money... The result is that Medicare as well as Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, CIGNA, United Healthcare and other health insurers cover services at retail health clinics. Some, such as Blue Cross in Minneapolis, waive co-payments when patients seek help from retail clinics.”
Patients pay out of pocket for office visits if they are members of plans other than those in which To The Point Medical participates. However, their insurer will still cover the cost of testing and medications that qualify for reimbursement under their health care plan.
